I’m Catalena Eskey!

Call me Cat.

I’ve always had a passion for making things with my hands.

Hi Ya’ll! I’m Cat (she/they).

I became seriously invested in fiber arts in 2015 but I’ve been making art all of my life. While I’ve practiced many forms of visual arts, the tactile experience of pulling needle and thread is one that is especially satisfying and meditative to me. With many years living in a body with chronic illness, I’ve experienced seasons of life where there were limitations on my ability to work or create art. This has deeply informed the ways that I teach, make, and move through the world.

Beyond making, my work and passion in life is teaching yoga. I’m a RYT-500 registered yoga teacher but I don’t feel like my yoga and my embroidery are separate, rather I explore art and crafting as a form of divine creativity. The yoga in everyday life. I teach traditional mat classes and yoga privates in person along the Colorado front range and also bring together these loves in my “Embroidery Mandalas for Meditation and Connection” workshops. In this series I teach not only the basics of hand embroidery, but how to use the practice as a way to support mental wellbeing and as a moving meditation for times when asana style movement may not be accessible.

To me, making art and teaching yoga are two sides of the same coin. As a yoga and fiber arts teacher I’m also always a student, honing my craft and learning from those around me. Being able to support myself with my own creations has always been a dream of mine. Through Cottage Chip Hand Embroidery I hope to make it a reality.
